TOUR DESTINATIONS
I. Ma’s House Museum
Shinnecock Indian Reservation, Southampton.NY
Learn about the Indigenous heritage and culture through the lens of a Native American Indian artist that converted his ancestors’ home into an educational and cultural museum. Guests will travel back through time on this historical and educational tour learning about Indigenous past history from well known contemporary artist Jeremy Dennis, the curator and owner of this 501 C3 historic house museum.
II. Southampton African American Museum
This tour recognizes the historical contributions of African Americans that migrated to the Southampton and surrounding eastern communities of Suffolk County during the early 1900’s through the great migration. Their resilience and fortitude enabled them to establish thriving businesses such as a barber shop and beauty salon which became a staple in the community. The museum showcases an eclectic reinterpretation of the barber shop and beauty salon industry that once served as a major business in this insular community.
III. Montauk “Council Rock” Ft. Hill. Cemetery
This beautiful crystal rock was formed during glacial period on Long Island and served as a peaceful place for spiritual healing thoughts and prayers to the great creator from the local Indigenous community. This huge crystal rock serves as a positive energy source and once served as a portal for time travel based on Native legend.
IV. The Third House at Montauk Historical Society
As an addition to this tour, The 3rd House of the Montauk Historical Society is included to highlight the importance of the Spanish American War and the house that Theodore Roosevelt and the Rough Riders used for quarantine purposes after the war. The Rough Riders were from various parts of Long Island and throughout the United States.

V. Sag Harbor Whaling Museum
At this destination, you'll get an understanding of the thriving whaling industries of the past. It also highlights the local community and vessels that voyaged throughout the South Pacific in search of whales and their blubber to further light Long Island homes. The economies of the past were fueled by maritime, agricultural and iron industries.
VI. Shelter Island Sylvester Manor Educational Farm
Tour a one of the last surviving plantations on Long Island, NY. The Sylvester Family owned this property and is considered the most largest surviving intact plantation in the Northeast. The cultivation of numerous crops and livestock as well as African American and Native Americans inhabited this plantation for many generations. Currently, there is a farm stand on the property where produce is available for sale.

TOUR DESTINATIONS
I. Earle-Wightman N.Y. Historic House Museum
This historic house museum was built in 1720 and is considered one of the oldest homes currently standing within the Township of Oyster Bay. It was used as a headquarters for the Queens Militia for the British during and after the American Revolutionary War. The house museum has been placed on the New York National Register for Historic Sites.
II. Hood AME Zion Church
John and Alice Weekes had donated the church property, parsonage & Pine Hollow Cemetery to congregates Nancy and Sam Brown for fellowship and burial purposes in 1848. It is the oldest continuously operated denomination on Long Island.
III. The First Presbyterian Church
The church is one of the oldest churches in the hamlet dating from 1873. The church was constructed through New York Architect J. Cleavland Cady. He had designed the Met, American Museum of Natural History and several buildings at Yale University. The architect style is considered Stick/Eastlike and or Carpenter Gothic style church.
IV. The Christ Church
This church was established in 1705. However, it was reconstructed in 1844 and replaced in 1878. This church was extremely remodeled and enlarged. In 2018, The church was placed on the National Register for Historic Sites.
V. Young’s Memorial Cemetery
OB Cove
This cemetery is the property of the Young’s family, established in 1658. This family has long family roots as the earliest settlers through the American Revolutionary War to the present day. The enslaved individuals that worked for the Young’s family are interred with white crosses that bear no name. The late president Theodore Roosevelt is interred at the top of the cemetery.

VI. Sagamore Hill
Cove Neck
This destination is considered the Summer White House of Theodore Roosevelt and designated a National Historic Site. It’s 83 acres serves as a place for exploration of natural surroundings with historic buildings and trails since 1885.
VII. St. John’s Episcopal Church
Cold Spring Harbor
This church was established in 1825 in Cold Spring Harbor. The property was part and parcel of the Jones family who played an integral role in the whaling industry of the past.
VIII. Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory
Cold Spring Harbor
This is the home of 8 Noble Prize Winners. It serves as a not for private laboratory for scientists, technicians and students around the world. It also serves as a a graduate school for teachers and students in high school and advanced learning programs.
IX. Pine Hollow Cemetery (1884)
Oyster Bay
Under the auspices of the Hood AME Zion church, this cemetery has been designated as a New York National Historic Site since 2018. It is an active cemetery and currently has 13 identified Civil War Soldiers interred with a General Army Republic (GAR) marker.

The Mount Olive Baptist Church started in 1921. Established by members from Accamack County Virginia that were part of the Great Migration community of the 1920’s-30’s.

TOUR DESTINATIONS
I. Lloyd’s Neck at the Jupiter Hammon Site
Step into one of the most historically significant locations on Long Island—the home site of Jupiter Hammon, the first African American male poet published in the United States. While visiting the Lloyd House, guests will learn about Hammon’s life as an enslaved poet and intellectual, and how his writings influenced early American literature. This stop offers an intimate look at the rooms and grounds where Hammon lived and worked, highlighting the complex relationship between the Lloyd family and the enslaved community that supported their estate.
II. Cold Spring Harbor
Travel to the historic waterfront of Cold Spring Harbor, once a bustling whaling port connected to voyages across the South Pacific. Here, visitors will discover the often-overlooked contributions of mariners of color—free, freed, and enslaved men who served as skilled craftsmen, harpooners, and deckhands aboard whaling vessels. Learn how these mariners shaped the region’s maritime economy and how their labor carried Long Island’s whaling industry into global waters.
III. Sagamore Hill Federal Park
Cove Neck
Sagamore Hill, famously known as Theodore Roosevelt’s “Summer White House,” provides a powerful window into the social fabric of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This tour focuses on the African American and Native American individuals who lived, worked, and contributed to the operation of the estate—farmers, laborers, domestic workers, and skilled staff who became part of Roosevelt’s personal and professional circle. Explore the grounds, outbuildings, and scenic pathways while learning about the essential roles people of color played in maintaining one of Long Island’s most iconic historic properties.
IV. Oyster Bay Cove
Learn the inspiring story of Frank Carll, an African American entrepreneur whose ingenuity and determination led to the creation of the region’s first garbage hauling business. Long before municipal sanitation services existed, Carll built a thriving enterprise that served the community and cemented his family’s legacy in local history. Guests will travel through the area where Frank Carll worked and lived, gaining insight into the everyday impact of Black business owners during a transformative era.

V. Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park
This waterfront stop celebrates the men and women—many of them African American—who worked in Oyster Bay’s shellfish and maritime industries. Learn how their labor contributed to both the local economy and the wider growth of the shellfish trade across the Northeast. Guests will explore the park’s scenic shoreline while uncovering stories of resilience, community, and economic influence.
VI. The David Carll Site
Visit the historic site associated with David Carll, an emancipated man who became one of the earliest African American property owners on Long Island’s North Shore. Discover the formation of his descendant heir community, which has maintained its presence for generations. This stop provides a powerful narrative of land ownership, family heritage, and the long-lasting imprint of African Americans in the region.
VI. A Gilded Mansion
Experience the grandeur of Long Island’s Gold Coast with a guided tour inside one of the area’s iconic “Great Gatsby–era” mansions. Learn about the lavish lifestyles of the industrial elite while also exploring the parallel stories of the workers—many of them people of color—who maintained these expansive estates. This immersive stop brings the opulence and complexity of the Gilded Age to life.

HARBOR SUNSET CRUISE
Tours begin April 10th. Departure around 5:00 PM according to the sunset in the area. Tours depart from Townsend Square. These sunset tours are amazing experiences on the water and are waiting for you in 2026!
In collaboration with Oyster Bay Harbor Tours, experience the scenic route that was once used to escape from enslavement by using the Oyster Bay Harbor and Long Island Sound. This scenic route is 8 miles to Connecticut and was once used as a passage to freedom for the Underground Railroad.
The Harbor tour also includes sailing around Cold Spring Harbor to discuss the Eugenics movement of the 1920’s which originated at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. Local authors provide lectures on the Harbor featuring their recent publications.
